And just why not? Actually, I had a 1-hour radio show in my senior year at UNC Greensboro ... it was 'The 60s Flip Side'
where I played some obscure but great tunes from the 60s. I also spun some unkown goodies from some popular bands such
as The Beach Boys, Beatles, Tommy James, Turtles, Zombies, Jam & Dean, Paul Revere and The Raiders, The Hollies, The
Rascals, The Buckinghams, etc.
It was a lot of fun and also a dream come true. I knew that I'd never be a DJ after school but ever since watching
WKRP in Cincinnati ... I always wanted to be Johnny Fever or Venus Flytrap. Sounds funny huh?
Well, long story short, I had a blast then and so I will now. Except I'm updating my show to cover a lot of artists
from now that you may have never heard of. Such artists as Jason Falkner, Jellyfish, Michael Carpenter, Marshall
Crenshaw, Cosmic Rough Riders, Oranger, Sugarbomb ... etc. These are some artists that don't get much playing time
on normal radio because well ... money runs radio.
I actually can't stand the music business as it is because it squashes the real artists. Unless you can make your
company a billion dollars, they don't want too much to do with you. So the real artists that don't completely conform
to today's particular record buyers' habits don't get much attention.
Payola is alive and well ... if you don't believe me, read
this article from Salon.com to learn just
how the music industry works in this day and age.
Here's my little corner of the web giving them their much deserved attention! Hope you enjoy!
